Escape Time

The story begins in a dimly-lit room with nighttime sounds to create the atmosphere of being outside in a forest. A tent and mock campfire are in the room to enhance the experience. Eighth grade students searched for clues, and worked brain-puzzles in teams to solve problems, and unlocked boxes to ‘escape’. Their goal was to find food and water to survive. They worked together to play this BreakoutEDU game, using critical thinking skills to complete the tasks. BreakoutEDU comes with boxes, word locks, directional locks and number locks which call upon different skills to figure out the combinations. The kit is generic enough that a game can be configured for any content area. The students were totally immersed and all teams ‘broke out’.
