Off to the races

Recently, Mr. Reynold’s CTE classes were having boat races in gutters turned race lanes. Students used the design cycle to plan, create, test, and re-engineer their boats. The boats were ‘hot cut’ by the students from foam pieces in the shop area. Mr. Reynolds provided physics lessons for them to decide how best to construct the aquatic vessels. Students really took this project very seriously as they competed for bragging rights as the best builder. Such STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math lessons) are at the heart of the IB program. Students learning and implementing this cycle learn valuable skills they will remember for a lifetime.
